Deerfield Beach, FL – RDD Motorsports of Deerfield Beach, Florida,
the exclusive North American importer of the Kart Mini chassis,
left Palm Beach International Raceway, host to rounds three and
four of the Florida Tour, leading the points in one class and second
in another. The RDD Motorsports team ran a total of four drivers
while satellite operation JC Karting entered five drivers on the Kart
Mini chassis. The RDD Motorsports drivers completed a full day of
testing to prepare a full assault on the Florida Winter Tour Rotax
Championship. All four drivers were on track to make final adjustments
heading into rounds three and four at the newly re-worked
PBIR karting circuit. In Mini Max, RDD Motorsports driver Dalton
Sargeant sits in first place in the overall standings thanks to another
great performance in rounds three and four. Also still in the
hunt is Rotax Junior driver Sebastian Ordonez who will hold onto
the second spot in the overall standings after he to had a great second weekend of FWT racing.
“We know the PBIR track well and did some extra testing to make sure we had our best effort in hand going into
the weekend, “ comments Andre Serra, RDD Motorsports Team Manager. “With a couple of drivers running at the
front in the points we wanted to keep the momentum going forward.”
In Mini Max, three RDD Motorsports drivers took to the track for action. Dalton Sargeant would run second quickest
in the final Friday practice and was followed by brother Logan in the third spot. The third driver, Garrett suffered
a mechanical issue in final practice and was only able to get in a few laps. In Saturday, it was Dalton taking the
pole in timed qualifying with Logan in third and Garrett still looking pace in 27th. In the pre-final Dalton lead early
but settled for second while Logan held onto third place. Garrett moved forward through thick traffic to take the
22nd spot. In the final, a tough battle up front saw lots of position changes from the start. In the end, Dalton would
cross the stripe in third, with Logan slipping back to seventh from early contact and Garrett, with some great pace,
charged forward to 13th spot.
In Sunday action, the RDD Motorsports drivers again attacked the Mini Max field. Dalton would take the third spot
in timed qualifying with Logan in fourth and Garett only getting in a couple of laps to time in 40th spot. Forced to
the LCQ, Garrett would charge forward to take fourth spot and transfer into the prefinal. In the prefinal Dalton took
the win with Logan in third and Dalton moving up to 20th from his 32nd starting spot. In final the RDD drivers would push hard early for the lead and crossed the line with Dalton in
second, Logan in third and Garret making it back from early turn
one contact to finish in 25th.
In Rotax Junior the lone RDD Motorsports driver Sebastian Ordonez
grabbed the 13th spot in Friday practice. He would qualify
in the sixth spot in Saturday morning timed qualifying and in the
would race at the front and hold on for a sixth place finish. A better
start in the final kept him with the leaders and he would cross the
line in the fourth spot.
On Sunday, Ordonez would improve his qualifying effort taking the
fourth spot after the combined two groups. In the prefinal he would
take the seventh spot as the action heated up. In the final a tough
start would push Ordonez back in the field. He would fight forward as action at the front kept the field tight on the short PBIR track. At the line he would take the 11th place but still
retain his second spot in the overall standings.
“It is good to be on top in a couple of classes, but we would have liked a bit better results in some classes,” comments
Serra from trackside at PBIR. “We have some work to do leading up the next FWT round. Going to Miami-Homestead this weekend will be very good for us.”
The RDD Motorsports team will be at round two of the CKI Florida Cup taking place at Homestead Miami Speedway
this weekend. All four RDD Motorsports drivers will be in action as they look to repeat their top performances
in round one. Ordonez currently sits second in the points in Rotax Junior, while Dalton Sargeant holds down the
third spot in Rotax Mini-Max.
Following round two of the CKI Florida, RDD Motorsports will be at the final weekend of FWT Rotax Max Challenge
taking place at Ocala Gran Prix on March 19-21. The RDD Motorsports team will also compete in the new
Rotax Pan Am Challenge and head back to Las Vegas for the SKUSA SuperNationals later in the year.
