RDD Motorsports Takes National Title
South Florida-based Karting team returns home with Rotax Micro Max National title along with great performances in other classes

Deerfield Beach, FL – RDD Motorsports of Deerfield Beach, Florida, the exclusive North American importer of the Kart Mini chassis, headed home from Oklahoma with a Rotax Grand Nationals title in hand. Rotax Micro Max pilot Logan Sargeant put on a dominant performance over the five days of competition to secure the title and cement his position as the nation’s number one cadet pilot. Heading into the Rotax Grand Finals, the US Rotax Kart Challenge National Points Standings placed two RDD Motorsports drivers on the top of the national rankings. Logan went into the event with a huge lead in the national standings in Micro Max, while older brother Dalton held the top spot in the Mini Max class.
“I am very excited to win the Micro class in Oklahoma,” smiles the 8-year kart racer. “It wasn’t easy winning the final race. I really want to thank Andre and everyone at Kart Mini.”
The size of the challenge for the young kart racer was enormous. Logan would take second spot in timed qualifying missing pole by 0.073 of a second. He would charge back taking all three heat race wins and start in the pole position for the prefinal. A rag left on the radiator as the field left the grid would lead to a disqualification from first place. Logan would have to start the 14 lap final from last place on the grid. By lap one Logan had charged to 9th place thanks to a crash in corner one in the mid pack. He would put his head down, go to work and move quickly through the field as drivers began to battle up front. By lap 5 Logan would grab P1 and never look back taking the win by 10.840 seconds. Logan used his new 2010 Kart Mini Model 97 cadet kart to take the national title and remain onto the national ranking.
If challenge was the theme for RDD Motorsports then Dalton, Logan’s older brother, faced his own up hill climb over the weekend. Things started out on target with an eighth place in qualifying. Dalton would rally in the Thursday heat one to take the win in convincing fashion. In Friday heat two things would not go well for the number one ranked mini max driver. Dalton would get caught up in a turn one crash and suffer significant damage. The race was red flagged and the karts would be repaired. In the re-started race Dalton would again get caught in someone else’s mistake and get involved in a major crash. Suffering discomfort in his right arm, Dalton would head to the local hospital for evaluation. Dalton would return to the track to compete despite significant discomfort, taking sixth in the third heat race.
A win, a DNF and a 6th place would put Dalton in the tenth spot for the prefinal. With the pain still evident in his face, he charged forward moving up to third spot on the final lap. With one corner to go, a kart that had spun crossed the track and made contact sending Dalton off track and ending his race in 26th place. In the final the young racer would put on a gutsy performance going from the 13th row to finish inside the top ten with a 9th place finish.
“We managed to post the fastest time in almost every session,” comments Dalton. “We had the fastest lap in the final and that is really important to me.”
Fellow RDD team member and mini max driver Garrett Sargeant would out qualify his team taking the sixth spot in timed qualifying and getting himself on the third row. He would also suffer a tough weekend, not quite coming to grips with the changing conditions and getting caught up in several incidents on the track. In the prefinal like his teammate he would suffer contact on the last lap while running in 15th and end up 27th place. Garrett would end the weekend in 26th spot in the final.
In Rotax Junior Max, Sebastian Ordonez who practice well on Wednesday and Thursday looking to stay at the sharp end of the grid. Ordonez would translate that good momentum into a sixth place in timed qualifying. Through the heats Ordonez would take 3 top tens with a 9, 2, 5 to start the prefinal in 9th spot. In the prefinal he would finish in 8th spot staying inside the top ten for the final. A great start in the final was no help as the front group began to battle early while the leader slipped away. Ordonez would hold on to finish in eighth spot.
“I am very happy with the entire teams performance this past weekend,” states team Principal André Serra. “It’s great to see all the hard work we did up to this point pay off in solid results through the team. We needed some more luck on our side as we had the pace to win.”
