RDD Motorsports - July Review
RDD Motorsports of Deerfield Beach, Florida, the exclusive North American importer of the Kart Mini chassis, has had a busy few weeks of racing logging endless miles up and down the US East Coast in search of the nation's top talent in two different series. The team is also logging countless miles on the track in several different classes and balancing their driver development program. During the mid part of July, the team continued their Bandolero Program as well as their Rotax Max Challenge program.
“We are very pleased with the team at the mid point of the season,” comments team manager Andre Serra. “We have a number of major events coming up an and we hope to score well in all of them.”
Summer Shootout Rounds 6
The team would once again make the weekly trip to North Carolina and visit Lowe's Motor Speedway for the 10 race Summer Shootout. The team has been on a roll and looked to keep the momentum going forward. In the heat races drivers Logan Sargeant and Dalton would run in separate races looking to go straight to the main event. Logan would start third just inside row two and finish in fourth in his heat race while older brother Dalton would start in eight and win his heat race. Both RDD pilots would transfer directly to the main event of 28 cars.
In the main, the field stacked up for the start with Dalton slotted into 8th while Logan would start outside row two in the 4th spot. While in 5th place, battling for position, Logan would encounter contact and a flat right rear tire ending his night with a 25th place finish. Dalton would move steadily up to third place, working traffic and avoiding contact. Going side-by-side for several laps and holding station, Dalton would finish in that spot as the checkered flag waved. That top three would move Dalton into third in the overall points standings.
“The car was really well set-up for tonight and I wish I could have got a couple more spots,” smiles Dalton. “Sitting in third spot in the standings is very cool for my first year of Bandolero.”
South Florida RMax Challenge
The RDD Motorsports crew would then head back south to their home state of Florida for round five of the six race South Florida RMax Challenge at the Homestead Karting facility just outside Miami.
In Micro Max action it was Logan Sargeant going five for five in South Florida RMax Challenge competition. He would qualify off pole in the second spot needing to find some speed to keep his streak alive. In the prefinal Logan would battle all race long and end up taking the third spot at the line but later be awarded 2nd because of a penalty putting him on the front row for the final. In the final he would battle all race long, fighting for the lead and passing back at every chance to maintain the lead. At the stripe it was Logan with the win and keeping his win streak alive.
In Mini Max RDD Motorsports would field two drivers, Dalton Sageant and fellow Bandolero teammate Dillon Bassett. It was Sargeant running the table, taking pole, winning the prefinal and the final. Dalton would have his RDD Motorsports prepared Kart Mini at the top of the sheets all day long and dominate the days action. In SFRC action he has three wins, a second, and a fourth to lead the points total.
For Bassett, he had great success in his very first sprint kart outing. Bassett would begin the event with some driver coaching from DP racer Oswaldo Negri Jr., getting some much needed insight and advice on how to make the most of the sprint kart. Bassett would qualify in fifth but get DQ in tech because his airbox came unhooked. In the prefinal Bassett would work forward to take P4 keeping clean and working with traffic. In the final Bassett ran well and moved forward to grab the third spot, finishing on the podium in his first sprint kart race.
“I want to thank everyone at RDD Motorsports for the chance to race here in Florida,” comments Bassett. “It was a blast and I hope to run some races later in the year.”
In JR Rotax RDD Motorsports would field Sebastian Ordonez qualifying in second spot. In the prefinal, on the third attempted start of the race Ordonez would suffer a fowled spark plug ending his race before it got started. In the final, Ordonez would have no better luck. Moving forward quickly he would charge forward to grab P4. Contact would knock his chain off sidelining him for the race.
