RDD Motorsports bounces back from tough night to score first feature win

South Florida-based racing team takes first feature win in Summer Shoot action at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Deerfield Beach, FL – RDD Motorsports of Deerfield Beach, Florida, the exclusive North American importer of the Kart Mini chassis, made their mark on Tuesday Night when they took the feature win the Bandolero action at the ultra competitive Summer Shootout held at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. The team fought through a tough round four and worked to regroup heading into round five. The team was confident they had the pace and could take their first win.

The team returned to Lowe's Motor Speedway from their south Florida base on Monday, June 30th for round four of the 600 Racing Bandolero Summer Shootout. Logan Sargeant, along with brother Dalton, worked through Monday night practice to prepare for the Tuesday Night Summer Shootout program. Both drivers worked through their heats and where able to go straight to the main event. In his heat race, Dalton would start fifth and cross the line in first. Logan started his heat race in third and finished in the first spot. For the finals Dalton would start from the third spot while Logan started on pole. 600 Racing use a handicap system to place drivers in the main event starting spots from their heat race finish and current points position.

In the main Dalton would quickly move to front and battled the leaders for the top spot. Running in second near the end of the race a spin and contact with another car would end Dalton’s night. For Logan he would slip back in the field and race most of the main in seventh spot. Working lapped traffic and some late race spins in front of him, Logan moved back to the 11th spot as he crossed the line.

“Both boys had a tough night,” comments RDD Motorsports team manager Andre Serra. “We never got in the groove and couldn’t make up the positions we would have liked.”

The team returned to Lowes on Tuesday Night for round five, a rare double points night for the field to mark the halfway point of the season. Dalton and Logan would again run in separate heat races as the field of over 40 cars was broken into four groups. Logan would finish second from his third starting spot in the third heat. In his heat, Dalton would finish in first spot from his fifth starting spot sending both drivers directly to the main event.

Nearly 4,000 spectators filled the trackside bleachers to see the 28-car feature race take the green flag. Logan would start in the pole position for the third time while brother Dalton would share the front row in the second spot, making it an all-RDD Motorsports front row. From the drop of the green Dalton charged to the front while Logan slipped back to third. Dalton worked the laps holding point and fending off several lead changes. Logan battled hard for a top three finish as the leaders diced in front of him. At the line it was Dalton taking the win and leading the most laps, while Logan crossed the stripe in fourth spot.

“It was fantastic to see RDD Motorsports and Dalton get the first win in Bandolero racing,” smiles Serra. “And it’s only halfway through the season so we hope to see many more wins for the team.”

The team will be back at Lowes on Monday July 13th for practice and then round six of Tuesday night Summer Shootout action. Before then the RDD Motorsports team will return to Homestead Karting near Miami Florida on Friday to compete in round five of the South Florida RMax Challenge. The team will have a special guest as fellow 600 Racing competitor Dillon Bassett will join the team for his first taste of sprint kart racing.
