RDD Motorsports takes second
FWT Championship Title South Florida-based Kart Mini team follows last year’s Rotax Senior title with the Micro Max title in 2009.
Deerfield Beach, FL – RDD Motorsports of Dearfield Beach, Florida, the exclusive North American importer of the Kart Mini chassis, ended a successful FWT IRMC series with a Championship title and strong finishes among the four team drivers. Competing in all three of the series’ Junior classes, the RDD/Kart Mini team was impressive through the six rounds of competition.
“We are very happy with our performance this season in the FWT”, states team principal André Serra. “All of our young drivers showed excellent progress and skill”.
Logan Sargeant, the lone Kart Mini pilot in the Micro Max class, was able to bring home the 2009 FWT Micro Max Championship. If speed is what it takes to win in this class, this pilot had plenty of it. Starting the campaign off with back-to-back wins in rounds one and two showed, and Logan showed himself to be the driver to beat. A second in round three was followed by a DNF in round four due to a flat tire. In rounds five and six in Ocala, Logan would get the job done. With the closest points battle in FWT action, Logan had to charge hard to win the title. Finishing third on Saturday and fourth on Sunday was exactly what he needed to do to seal the deal and take the title.
“I can’t believe I won the Championship”, exclaims the 8-year-old driver. “Everyone is so fast and races hard, it’s a blast”.
Cousins Dalton and Garret Sargeant ran in the Mini Max class. Dalton, the younger of the two at 10-years-old, was able to finish in third in the final standings, while Garret in only his second year of Mini Max competition, finished in twelfth. Dalton would start off well in round one with a third place finish. Rounds two and three would prove more difficult with a 24th and 28th. The team would rally back strong in rounds four and five taking the second podium position in the events. Dalton took the prefinal win and the feature to score the maximum points at round six, leaving him third overall in the final standings. Cousin Garret continued a steady paced of development with strong runs and top ten finishes.
Sebastian Ordonez of Colombia would carry the Kart Mini colors in the Junior Rotax class. While he was able to get strong runs in place, the racing luck was hard to come by in this highly contested class. Using the M2 chassis designed by Kart Mini, Ordonez kept charging and kept himself inside the top ten in the final standings, sitting eighth when the dust settled.
