Kart Mini Victory in Rotax International at LAKC

Clark Sanchez-Figueras

Clark Sanchez-Figueras came out of a long layoff from driving to register pole position, win the heat and then go on to win what could arguably be considered the best race of the weekend. The Rotax International final had spectators at the fence, cheering and yelling at every pass and re-pass attempt. Clark sported his new supporting sponsors’ products, an HJC HX-10 carbon fiber helmet with Axcel Fast Graphics color scheme.

After setting pole time and convincingly winning the pre-main heat, things looked to be on easy street for the 2003 CART Stars of Tomorrow National Champion. However once the Kart Mini-Figueras duo took to the track for the warm up lap, all was not well. Clark reported after the race that the motor “would not clean up and loaded up at mid-range as well as coming out of three corners”. Inspection after the race showed the power valve diaphragm cap had come adrift and vibrated itself out a significant amount.

Nevertheless at the start Clark pulled a small lead from Dylan Stalker
but this was short lived as Dylan cut the deficit. After some fantastic back and forth pass and re-passing moves that had the two karts side by side all over the track and at almost every corner, Dylan overtook Clark on lap 5. Dylan pulled a small lead that he held until lap 14 where Dylan hesitated in traffic. Clark pounced and held off Dylan the last two laps to the checker for a fantastic win. The crowd was not disappointed and Kart Mini and Clark Sanchez-Figueras chalked up another podium performance. There is no doubt that the Brazil-manufactured Kart Mini is becoming a force to be reckoned with in U.S. karting.

Clark is actively searching for marketing and advertising partners to
move him to the next rung in the ladder of auto racing. He would like to race in either the British Formula Ford Championship or Star Mazda as the next step in his career. Please visit his web site at: www.Clarkspeed.com for the latest news and background information on this young driver.
